I'd seen other people talking online about the "upside down" hair cut. There was even a video of a woman at the beach doing this hair cut herself. The video was, I dunno, 3 minutes long? It turns out, this hair cut is even speedier than that, if you don't feel like you first have to pose in your bikini from all angles. So this is the No-Bikini-Posing version of the upside-down haircut.
Here's how it goes: bend over (pretend like you're touching your toes) and brush your hair. Cut across in a straight line with your favorite sharp scissors. I used my sewing scissors, for example. Stand back up.
That's it. A 30-second hair cut. I was skeptical that this would look okay, but I knew I had the pestering-my-friend as a back-up plan if disaster struck.
The result, fortunately, was far from disaster. The ends of my hair are no longer frizzy, and the layers came out looking like, well, like layers. Like I'd meant them (which I actually did, so that's good).
And that's my new haircut. Which is growing on me.
The end.
Thank you for cracking me up ("It turns out, this hair cut is even speedier than that, if you don't feel like you first have to pose in your bikini from all angles.") And of course hair is always (literally) growing on you, but I'm glad you're liking it. (I just cut my hair straight across in the back, also quick, also not requiring bikini poses.)
ReplyDeleteI always tell my husband when I need a trim. I take a seat on the stool, get caped, my hair combed out, sectioned, pinned up, the let down and trimmed layer by layer. He has been doing my hair for years. Very convenient, no trips to the salon, it is free and I don’t even need to leave the house. I don’t have to worry about what I am wearing as no one is going to see me. I can be in shorts and an old T-shirt. The only photos taken are with my phone so I can see the back, not to be posted on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI cut my husband's hair, but we haven't gotten to the point of turning the tables. I'm much more comfortable with DIY projects in general, I suppose; I love that your husband does this for you!
DeleteMy husband is the family barber and stylist. He took over giving my boys their haircuts a few years back, as I was sick of paying for bad haircuts at the barbershop. I attempted to do them, got flustered, he took over and my boys fired me. He does an excellent job and I have had my son’s teachers and other moms ask me where I take my sons for their haircuts as they always look so good. So I am never embarrassed that my boys would be walking around with wonky looking haircuts. Hubby also cuts my best friend’s hair for her as well. She brings a bottle of wine to share so we can chat and catch up while she gets her tresses trimmed. My husband has told me while he takes him more time to cut a woman’s hair due to the combing, sectioning and letting our hair down in increments, that it is easier than giving my boys their haircuts. He uses the clippers with different attachments, the scissors over comb for the longer hair on top and the peanut clippers to clean up the neckline and sideburns. There is less hair to work with, so there is a greater margin for error. My boys get their haircuts every 3-4 weeks, I get mine trimmed every 8-10 weeks. So I figure it saves me over a grand a year. Hubby is very meticulous about all the DIY projects he does, whether it is a remodeling job, changing a faucet or just adding a light fixture. His mother and his aunt always did the family’s haircuts at home. He had cousins, both the guys and girls have his mom cut their hair. He has a knack for giving good haircuts, so maybe it is something he inherited.
