Miser Family update: Least favorite vegetables

Life continues to be rich and full in the Miser family household.  This week was rich and full with our "Least Favorite Vegetables".   I present to you the annotated list.

All of them [I-daughter]:  "(except carrots) (and peas and green beans) (broccoli is okay, I guess . . . )

Avocados [J-son].  Actually, J-son sent me a photo from his (successful!) court date this week, and Y added the avocados, which appropriately enough sound like the Spanish word for lawyers.

Carrots [L-the-younger]:
  • L: This is the only vegetable photo I have and I'm stuck on a boat. But clearly the people have spoken; carrots are out.
  • I-daughter:  Carrots are the best part of any veggie tray (also red/orange/yellow bell peppers)
  • L: Well we need you on the boat then.  Second time all that's left was the carrots.
  • I-daughter:  L, did the dip spill onto the carrots? Because that makes them gross
  • L: Nope just got some anti carrots peeps I guess

Corn [K-daughter]:
  • K-daughter:  "I like most aside from bok Choy and corn!  (D brought home corn!??????)"
  • I-daughter: I love corn! (But I've been told that it doesn't count as a vegetable ☹️)
  • Me: I looked it up, and "Whole corn, like you eat on the cob, is considered a vegetable. The corn kernel itself (where popcorn comes from) is considered a grain." So yes and no.  Also, But why does the corn have a clear jelly-fish-like thing on the bottom of it? Whatever that is, it looks EVIL.
  • K-daughter: Its not a vegetable??? Its a bag! Bad D! 😉😂
  • I-daughter: (pretty sure your husband is the who told me it was a starch, not a vegetable...)
  • Me:  Pretty sure my husband hates corn and wants me to stop buying it.  But now I buy it and eat all of his.
  • K-daughter: man.... I stand by corn. Or green beans.
Dandelion Greens [Me]:
  • Me:  Went to Market this morning to take a photo with Dandelion Greens, for our upcoming "least favorite vegetable" photo. It backfired on me, because the stand-holder said "we've got one bunch left and they're starting to wilt; just take them home with you".
  • K-daughter:  I LOVE dandelion greens! It also makes for great tea :) Good job taking the opportunity for a photo!!!
Jalapeños [Y]:  "Do not appreciate when a pepper gets jalapeño business *snap*".

Kale [My guy]: "Because of the CSA, it never leafs me alone!  It's stalking me!"

Pepper (sauteed), onions, or tomatoes [A-child]:  "No comment"

Salad [Lauren]: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, "I like all veggies, the dogs like very few, so here they are with a salad, unless it's coated in ranch they won't eat it."

Squash [N-son]: "Help! Mom's squashing me!"
  • Me: Wait: there's weirder stuff that Google teaches me: "Botanically speaking, squash are a fruit because of their internal seeds. And they fall into the tricky category of surprising fruits that masquerade as veggies, along with tomatoes and avocados. "

So, that's the vegetable update; now you know.

In other news, apparently my husband and I are both getting old.  I put a bunch of 1.5 reading glasses out in the FREE box on my porch, and moved my eyeballs up to 2.25-2.5 reading glasses.    A super scary mole on my neck turns out to be -- according to my dermatologist who met with me online -- an "age spot".  (See? I knew it was fatal).   And my husband's pedestrian mileage is way down, having walked only 67 miles this week, in spite of crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. When he told me he walked 23 miles fewer this week than last, I pointed out that "for most people, this would mean they walked backwards".

Finally, I wish everyone the very best during this "Plastic-Free July" (https://www.plasticfreejuly.org/) May all your corn come without jelly-fish-like bags.

And that's the news from our family, which continues to be wealthy in our herbaceous adventures.  May you and yours be safe.
