Miser Family update, Free of plastic

Life continues to be rich and full in the Miser Family Household.  This week, our lives are particularly full of alternatives to plastic disposable stuff.  Wanna see?

Amelia the foster dog says, "I don't chew those plastic Nyla bones ever, I only chew the real thing... full fledged bully stick made from 100% [organic animal parts I bleeped out], which then gets recycled into my gut and comes back out as reusable fertilizer".  Thank you, Amelia!

K-daughter and A-child have, completely independently from me, been replacing plastic toys with wooden versions.  The photo above shows really cool stackable wooden semicircles. And D brought home an awesome collection of blocks (cardboard boxes).   Here's another cool rearrangement of those cool toys!

  • I-daughter uses "stretchy (hand-knit) reusable bags for shopping or just carrying things".
  • Y uses the cutting-edge approach of "bringing my metal utensils to eat whatever the hospital feeds us for lunch 🥗".
  • L1-daughter and her husband "try to choose take out restaurants using paper bags 😊".
  • My husband flaunts his reusable container:  "He gets salmon in pyrex, not plastic. (The vendor thought this was a fishy idea, but he schooled them. Now getting plastic-free salmon goes swimmingly)."
  • And back to bags, I am sitting in front of a "garbage bag I sewed myself from crossword puzzles and comics. (Does that mean they're dirty jokes now?)"
  • For his mug shot, N-son points out he doesn't have to worry about plastic cups (with big thanks to his oldest sister for gifting him these mugs!)
  • And L2-daughter boasts, "No soda nor plastic bottles here"!

So, happy Plastic-free July to you, too!

I've been Zooming around the world from the coziness of my Command Center.  This week, I attended a "Virtual Town Hall to Discuss Quality Education as a Constitutional Right."  The 6 panelists included one of my mathematical heroes -- Bob Moses -- and also Danny Glover, and also a new hero of mine, Jammaria Hall.  He was one of the plaintiffs in a

class-action lawsuit filed by a group of Detroit public school students that cited a litany of severe deficiencies: Rodent-infested schools. Unqualified and absentee teachers. Physics classes given only biology textbooks. “Advanced” high school reading groups working at the fourth-grade level. In April, a federal court ruled that American public school students have a constitutional right to an adequate education.

My husband has been zooming (small-z version) around various cities in person.  It's a tad like living in a post-apocalyptic world.  His Amtrak cars sometimes have as many as 6 people, and sometimes are empty aside from him.  This week he walked across the Queensboro Bridge a bunch of times . . . and speaking of times, here's a photo of 7th Ave, looking down the road to Times Square.  New York, New York: the city that never sleeps, although right now it hibernates.

N-son has been off working on remote construction projects with family members.  No photos of these, this week alas!

And that's the news from our family, which continues to be wealthy in our adventures.  May you and yours stay safe.
